Five Simple Ways to Feel Calmer

Life can sometimes feel busy, noisy and overwhelming. When there is a lot happening around us or in our own thoughts it can be difficult to find a moment of calm.

Looking after our wellbeing doesn't always require big changes. Small moments throughout the day can help us slow down and reconnect with ourselves.

Here are five simple things you can try:

  1. Take a few slow breaths.

Pause for a moment and breathe slowly. Allow your shoulders to relax and give yourself permission to stop for a minute.

  2. Step outside.

Fresh air, daylight and a short walk can give you a change of scenery and a little space from whatever is occupying your mind.

  3. Move your body.

Gentle stretching, yoga, dancing to a favourite song or walking around the garden can help release tension and lift your mood.

  4. Talk to someone.

We don't always have to solve everything ourselves. A conversation with someone you trust can help things feel a little lighter.

  5. Do something you enjoy.

Knitting, gardening, music, cooking, reading or simply enjoying a quiet cup of tea can give your mind somewhere peaceful to rest.

You don't have to do all five.

Choose one small thing that feels manageable today. Sometimes a few peaceful minutes are enough to reset your day.
